What to expect

What will happen at our first session?

How do I decide whether counselling can help me?

The first session is an assessment session. At this session I will explain counselling in more detail, talk about confidentiality and the limits to confidentiality. It will give you the opportunity to discuss what has brought you to counselling and some idea of how I work; and also for you to assess whether I am the right counsellor for you. I will be assessing whether I am able to offer you what you are looking for within my counselling practice.

How many sessions will I attend?

Every client and every situation is different, regards the number of sessions required. Some clients may feel they only need a few sessions, others will feel they need more, how many sessions you have is your decision. I usually initially suggest six sessions, and at this point we can review how the counselling is helping you and if you would like further sessions.

What about confidentiality?

Confidentiality is central to counselling, so anything we discuss will be confidential, however there are some ethical and legal limitations to this, which I will explain more at our initial session.

How much do you charge?

Assessment Session (50 minutes) – £20

Counselling Sessions (50 minutes) – £35

Payment can be made via bank transfer (in advance of the appointment). If this method of payment is not convenient for you, please let me know, and we can make alternative arrangements.

I hope this section has helped answer any questions you may have about how counselling sessions work. If you have any further questions or concerns, then please contact me, I am happy to answer any questions.
